Filing a tax return after the deadline

Didn't file your tax return on time? You are not alone. Many people are late every year, whether due to forgetfulness, lack of time or other reasons. But what does this mean in practice and what penalties do you face?

Penalties for late filing

The tax office is quite strict in this respect. If you file your return after the deadline, you will face a penalty of 0.05% of the tax assessed for each day of delay, up to a maximum of 5% of the total tax (up to a maximum of CZK 300,000). The minimum penalty is CZK 1,000 if you are liable for tax at all.

When is there no penalty?

The good news is that if you file your return within five working days after the deadline, the tax office will not apply the penalty. However, if you exceed this deadline, you will not be penalised.

What to do if you miss the deadline?

File your return as soon as possible - every day counts.

Pay the tax as soon as possible - the sooner the less interest.

Complete your tax return quickly and easily - use the Simple Returns app to help you complete and file your tax return online quickly and hassle-free.

Apply for a waiver of penalty - the tax office can waive part of the penalty in justified cases.
